AT the European Election count for the North West region at Manchester City Hall on Sunday 7th June 2009, the British National Party polled 132,094 votes which was 8.0% of the total votes cast.
It was enough to ensure that Nick Griffin won the eighth seat on offer and take his place in the European Parliament.
